And for that, we celebrate that long arc of history that produced freedom for the United States and honor those who endured and fought to bring democracy to American soil. Hence, we honor, remember and salute those who sacrificed on this July 4th Independence Day Celebration.

Celebrating Extra Carefully
Most Americans treasure our national accomplishments. To that end, it's in our DNA to take time out to celebrate those accomplishments, as they are part of our traditions and societal norms. This year, especially in the wake of the ongoing pandemic, suggests it would be wise to understand that there continues to be a life-threatening menace rampaging across the country. The virus is mutating rapidly to the extent that the medical communities are hard-pressed to keep abreast of the mutations and the ramifications of those variants.
COVID-19 is void of selecting victims by age, geographic location, immune system status, or any other human condition in this country. As we venture out to celebrate this 2021 holiday weekend, we must consider how we can keep ourselves and others equally safe. Here are a few helpful guideline tips to follow according to the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci:
- Wear a mask at all times when out of the home, especially when enclosed in rooms, halls, and convention centers, or any area where folks are in close proxy to each other.
- Practice social distancing at a minimum of 6 feet. However, recent scientific studies state that 12 feet or more are the best distance to avoid infection via conversation droplets, commonly referred to as "aerosol."
- Outdoor events have proven that just being in the sunshine will not deter one from becoming infected. Several athletes, beachgoers, politicians, protesters, activists, actors, news reporters, and others who have ventured into crowded, outdoor events have become infected. So, be very cognizant if you are planning to attend a significant outdoor event. The disease is airborne.
- Wash hands regularly, even if you feel you already did so two hours ago.
- Carry water with you, and be sure to drink a bit every 10 minutes if attending an outdoor event. The medical community suggests that it takes about 15 minutes for the virus to enter the lungs once it is prevalent in the throat area.
- Goggles and Face Shields are recommended for attending any large gathering, whether inside or outside.
- Avoid speaking with people up close for any extended period.
It is also critical to understand that more than 600,000 souls have lost their lives to this disease, proving that it is not a hoax, a conspiracy, fake news, or a made-up story. The virus can be deadly. Consequently, all of our fellow citizens should focus on how we can help slow the spread of the virus. Former Presidential candidate Herman Cain lost his life after attending a Tulsa rally back in 2020. That incident alone should signal that this disease is virulent and can kill rather quickly.
As we celebrate the national holiday, we salute our first responders. Thank you to all specialists, doctors, nurses, medical personnel, and all who are on the frontline and elsewhere battling this pandemic.
